The Paramount Theater opened in 1931 and closed originally in 1974. In 1992, renovation began to reopen this historic building which took place on December 4th, 2004. The lights from the marquee can be seen in downtown Charlottesville and are a reminder of the great Paramount Theater. Paramount offers a variety of events such as live music ranging from Norah Jones to the African Children’s Choir. Plays and movies are shown, such as Hamlet and Ben Hur. Paramount also features traveling dance companies like Moscow Festival Ballet’s 50-member company performing Tchaikovsky’s famous Swan Lake.
